Big Pharma's reputation strikes out again

Here we go again. Another public opinion pool where Big Pharma shows up among the least likable industries or lands near the bottom when it comes to corporate industry reputation. This time it's the monthly Kaiser Family Foundation health tracking poll for August. While the core of the study focused on consumers' opinions about drug prices, several questions also tallied public sentiment regarding pharma. And it ain't good.

Opinion Of Pharmaceutical Companies

Majorities of the public feel favorably towards a number of companies and groups in American society, such as doctors (78 percent), food manufacturers (58 percent), banks (58 percent), and airlines (55 percent), but pharmaceutical companies rank lower. About 4 in 10 (42 percent) of the public views pharmaceutical companies favorably, similar to the shares who have positive views of oil companies (40 percent) and health insurance companies (44 percent). The share with favorable views of pharmaceutical companies is similar across Democrats (38 percent), Republicans (41 percent) and independents (42 percent).

While Americans hold some other industries and groups in higher regard than pharmaceutical companies, most of the public (57 percent) says drug companies are making about the same contribution to society as most other companies. 

Η Valeant αγοράζει την εταιρία του «θηλυκού Viagra»

Η φαρμακευτική εταιρία πρόκειται να αγοράσει την Sprout για 1 δισ. δολάρια, μετά την έγκριση του χαπιού της για τη γυναικεία λίμπιντο από τον FDA. Ωστόσο, το ροζ χάπι δεν αναμένεται να αγγίξει τις πωλήσεις του Viagra.

Έναντι 1 δισ. δολαρίων πρόκειται να αγοράσει η Valeant Pharmaceuticals τη Sprout, την εταιρία της οποίας το «θηλυκό Viagra» μόλις εγκρίθηκε. Το νέο ροζ χάπι θα πωλείται με το όνομα Addyi και θα χρησιμοποιείται για την τόνωση της γυναικείας λίμπιντο.

Η συμφωνία πρόκειται να ολοκληρωθεί κάποια στιγμή μέσα στο τρέχον τρίμηνο, ενώ η Valeant θα πληρώσει σε δύο δόσεις των 500 εκατ. δολαρίων, μία προκαταβολικά και μία τον επόμενο χρόνο. Ταυτόχρονα, η δεύτερη θα κρατήσει και τους 25 εργαζόμενους της Sprout, περιλαμβανομένων και των στελεχών της, καθώς προετοιμάζουν την έναρξη των πωλήσεων του φαρμάκου τον Οκτώβριο.
