Fitch: Pharmaceutical Industry Could Use a Shot in the Arm

Fitch Ratings says 2012 will be a critical year for the pharmaceutical industry, as drug makers struggle with record patent expirations, disappointing results of expensive clinical trials, and ongoing regulatory challenges against an already challenging economic backdrop.

Large pharmaceutical companies remain pressured and some are bracing themselves for a steep drop off the patent cliff. We believe the loss of patent exclusivity on blockbuster drugs will continue to spur increasing competitive pressure as generic versions of branded medications hit the market. We note that more than $70 billion of branded drug revenues (based on 2010 sales) will lose or have already lost patent protection from the second half 2011 to the end of 2015.

Κύριε Υπουργέ,                                                                                                                  Αφήσαμε να περάσουν κάποιες μέρες από τις δηλώσεις σας στον τηλεοπτικό σταθμό Αντένα, σχετικά με την κινητοποίησή μας, που όπως ισχυριστήκατε είχε ως αποτέλεσμα την μεγάλη ταλαιπωρία των ασφαλισμένων. Αυτό το κάναμε για να δώσουμε χρόνο στους εαυτούς μας να συνειδητοποιήσουν αυτά που είπατε και να αντιδράσουν με νηφαλιότητα και όχι εν θερμώ.

Στην εκπομπή αυτή αναφερθήκατε επίσης και σε μελλοντικές πιθανές κινητοποιήσεις του κλάδου, καλώντας τον Πρόεδρο του Πανελληνίου Φαρμακευτικού Συλλόγου να υπογράψει μαζί σας συμφωνητικό «περί μη μελλοντικής ταλαιπωρίας των ασφαλισμένων», απειλώντας μάλιστα ότι σε ενδεχόμενη νέα κινητοποίηση θα εφαρμόζατε το σύστημα των ατομικών συμβάσεων.
Κατανοούμε λοιπόν, ότι όλα τα ανωτέρω τα είπατε είτε επειδή δεν είχατε άμεση πληροφόρηση των γεγονότων, είτε επειδή θέλατε να εντυπωσιάσετε. Σε κάθε περίπτωση, όπως θα σας αποδείξουμε κατωτέρω, έχετε κάνει σε όλα λάθος.

Γενόσημα φάρμακα και αυστηροί έλεγχοι στη συνταγογράφηση, είναι τα δύο "κλειδιά" για την περιστολή της φαρμακευτικής δαπάνης, η οποία, το 2012, πρέπει να είναι μειωμένη κατά 900 εκατομμύρια ευρώ, σύμφωνα με τον υπουργό Υγείας Ανδρέα Λοβέρδο, ο οποίος είχε  συνάντηση με την τρόικα.

"Ούτε ένα ευρώ πάνω από τα 3,2 δισ. ευρώ για φάρμακα δεν πρόκειται να δοθεί", υπογράμμισε ο υπουργός, κάτι το οποίο θα επαναλάβει και αύριο Τρίτη στους εκπροσώπους των φαρμακευτικών εταιριών, σε συνάντηση που θα έχει μαζί τους, προσθέτοντας ότι στόχος είναι από το σύνολο των φαρμάκων που θα δίνονται σε ασθενείς, το 50% να είναι αντίγραφα. Τα γενόσημα είναι ο μόνος τρόπος να υπάρχει ανάπτυξη αλλά και να μειωθεί η δαπάνη, είπε ο υπουργός.

Novartis drug Signifor® recommended by CHMP for EU approval to treat patients with Cushing's disease

Basel, January 20, 2012 - The Committee for Medicinal Products for Human Use (CHMP) of the European Medicines Agency (EMA) adopted a positive opinion for Signifor® (SOM230, pasireotide) for the treatment of Cushing's disease. There are currently no approved medicines in the European Union (EU) targeting Cushing's disease, a debilitating endocrine disorder caused by excess cortisol in the body due to the presence of a non-cancerous pituitary tumor[1],[2].

"We are pleased with the decision by the CHMP in support of pasireotide in the European Union," said Hervé Hoppenot, President, Novartis Oncology. "We are now one step closer to being able to offer patients in Europe the first approved medical treatment for Cushing's disease."
